SUSTAINABILITY
SOCIAL Sustainability
Social sustainability includes the topic of Human Life Sustainability, therefore, Health issues. Some chemicals, related to resins might be banned or taken action to be banned or less used.
Migration of Microplastics (Related to All Resins)
Plastics smaller than 5 mm. in size can accumulate in human body. Although, the effects are still being studied, there is a trend to avoid excessive use of plastics and find better alternatives if “sustainably” possible. As human diagnosis techniques get better, humans are found to contain plastics in blood and some organs in PPB (parts per billion) levels.
BPA-free / Phthalate-free (Related to epoxy resins, PVC, etc.)
BPA and DOP are strictly banned in most countries. Alternative chemicals are used for production of Scala Resins.
PFAS – free (Related to fluoropolymer Resins)
In recent years, there is an escalating trend of banning fluorine atom containing compounds (taking place in fluoropolymers of course) in various sectors.
These sectors are mainly food contact sectors, but pharmaceuticals, water transport systems and textile sectors seem to be affected.
Legislation differs due to state laws or federal laws of countries, but the user has to make the right choices to avoid trespassing the law.
The extent to what material is safe, depends on the local laws, starting from the good old PFOA-free to calcium fluoride of the toothpastes!!!
